The information technology profession is not just a career; it becomes a part of whom you are. Even though this can occasionally be a bad thing, it also has the ability to provide you with the building blocks for a satisfying and successful career. As I became an IT technician or techie, it began to mold me and alter how others viewed me in positive ways and negative ways. Being a techie impacts my life, for the good and occasionally the bad. Initially, being a techie means that you will need to provide technical support at all times. This means that your job as an information technology professional never ends. When you are a techie a â€Å"9 to 5† job does not exist. You provide support at night, on weekends, and even while on vacation. For†¦show more content†¦In the end, I was barely able to get the server set up in the required amount of time. In situations such as this one where things do not go according to plan, you are put under an extreme amount of pressure . In spite of the fact that this certainly is a negative aspect of the IT field, it also helps you do your best. When you are put under lots pressure to do something that is when your problem-solving skills and technical knowledge is being fully utilized. Thus, being put under pressure in the IT field has advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, when you are a techie, friends expect that they can come to you for tech support. As soon as friends and even strangers find out that I am an IT technician they start asking me questions. Some frequent questions I receive are: my laptop will not turn on, can you help? Which phone should I buy? And why is my internet so slow? These constant requests for technical related help become very annoying. For example, I have a friend who constantly complains that his Wi-Fi does not reach his bedroom; as soon as he found out I was a techie he asked me to fix it next time I go to his house. As a result, I have not been back to his home in over a year . Indeed, it is quite irritating to have people asking for tech support, but it also has a positive aspect.
